Moscow: Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov announced that Russia is hopeful about US efforts in the peace process with Ukraine, highlighting President Vladimir Putin’s backing of the ceasefire initiative. He emphasized the presence of “delicate details” that complicate achieving progress as swiftly as Washington desires.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Peskov expressed optimism regarding US efforts, stating, “We still hope that US efforts will be successful, and President Vladimir Putin is ready for this process.” He mentioned that direct contact between Russian and US Presidents Donald Trump “will take place when necessary.” Peskov remarked that Moscow’s leadership believes Washington is aiming for a quick resolution in the Ukrainian peace process, yet all specifics require thorough negotiation. He added, “We understand Washington’s desire for rapid success in this process, but at the same time, we hope to understand that settling the Ukrainian crisis is extremely complex and cannot be resolved overnight.”

The Russian statements coincide with Trump’s reflections on the first 100 days of his second term and his assurances to bring an end to the three-year-old conflict. Peskov emphasized that Putin “remains open” to resolving the Ukrainian conflict through political and diplomatic methods, noting the absence of a response from Kyiv. He stated, “A peace agreement should be concluded with Ukraine, not with America. America is trying to mediate, and we are grateful for these tireless efforts.”

US President Donald Trump remarked that Putin desires peace in Ukraine, shortly after expressing skepticism about his Russian counterpart’s intentions. When queried about his belief in Putin’s wish to conclude the war in Ukraine, Trump affirmed, “I think so.”

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sepah also announced Ukraine’s openness to peace talks in any feasible format, contingent on Kyiv’s assurance of Moscow’s genuine commitment to pursuing the challenging path of peace.
