Algeria: Parliament Speaker Mahmoud al-Mashhadani participated in the opening session of the Arab Parliamentary Union held in Algeria on Saturday. The session focused on the theme "The Role of the Arab Parliamentary Union in Light of Regional and International Changes."
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Iraqi parliamentary delegation, led by al-Mashhadani, was actively involved in the session. The event commenced with a welcoming speech to the delegations, followed by the approval of the session's agenda. Key discussions in the second session revolved around amending the Union's charter, reviewing the President and Secretary-General's reports, and developing a bylaw that aligns with the aspirations of the participating countries and their citizens.
During his intervention, al-Mashhadani urged the heads of parliaments and representative councils to expedite the necessary amendments to address the pressing issues facing the Arab nation amid ongoing transformations. He emphasized that achieving agreement today is crucial for future consensus, while disagreement could hinder progress.
The statement also noted that al-Mashhadani is expected to conduct several side meetings with his counterparts from the participating countries. These discussions aim to address issues of common interest and strengthen collaborative efforts within the region.
