Washington Announces Rescue of Venezuelan Opposition Members from Caracas

Washington: US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced the successful rescue of five members of the Venezuelan opposition who had sought refuge in the Argentine Embassy in the capital, Caracas, seeking political protection.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Rubio wrote on the X platform that “after a meticulous operation, all hostages are now safe on US soil,” without providing any details about the operation. He added that “the United States welcomes the successful rescue of all hostages held by the Maduro regime at the Argentine Embassy in Caracas,” describing these opposition members as “Venezuelan heroes.”

Rubio expressed his regret that “the illegitimate Maduro regime has undermined Venezuelan institutions, violated human rights, and endangered our regional security.”
