Karbala: Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia al-Sudani chaired a special meeting on Wednesday regarding the Khairat Thermal Power Plant project in Karbala Governorate. The meeting was attended by the Chinese ambassador to Iraq, delegations from the two companies implementing the project, and officials from the Ministries of Electricity and Oil.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the meeting addressed the reasons for the obstacles facing work at the plant. The project is one of the electricity initiatives for which contracts were signed with the two companies during the previous government in 2021.
During the meeting, al-Sudani directed that a three-month grace period be given to Harlow International and CITIC to resolve the delays in implementing their assigned work at the plant. Otherwise, the investment license for the project will be cancelled.
