Baghdad: United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres called on both India and Pakistan to “exercise maximum military restraint.” A UN spokesperson said that the Secretary-General is “deeply concerned by Indian military operations across the Line of Control and the international border.”

According to National Iraqi News Agency, in response to journalists’ questions, the Spokesperson stressed that the world cannot afford a military confrontation between the two countries. Guterres said on Monday that tensions between India and Pakistan have reached their highest levels in years, stressing the need to exercise maximum restraint and “avoid a military confrontation that could easily spiral out of control.”

The UN Secretary-General emphasized that a military solution is not a solution. He offered the Indian and Pakistani governments his efforts to de-escalate the situation and renew their commitment to peace. The Indian Armed Forces announced yesterday evening, Tuesday, that they had carried out a military
strike targeting nine sites in the disputed region of Jammu and Kashmir between India and Pakistan, while a Pakistani military spokesman confirmed that Islamabad had begun responding to India’s attacks.
