Baghdad: The Western Nineveh Operations Command organized an extensive workshop addressing security challenges in the border areas with Syria. During the workshop, the latest technologies and mechanisms used to counter cross-border threats were reviewed.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, a security source in the Western Nineveh Operations Command stated, “The workshop was organized as part of the command’s efforts to enhance the efficiency of security units operating in areas of responsibility, develop their capabilities in monitoring and preventing infiltration, and mitigate the risks posed by hostile movements or terrorist activities in open desert areas.”

The source added that “the workshop discussed a number of topics, most notably the use of drones for night surveillance, the activation of thermal imaging systems, and the intensification of intelligence coordination with other security agencies, especially in the border triangle, which is one of the most prominent areas for smuggling and terrorist infiltration.”

He stressed that “the Operations Command is paying special attention to strengthening border fortifications and deploying advanced observation points, in addition to updating military deployment maps to keep pace with the changing nature of threats, especially in light of attempts by some outlaw groups to exploit the rugged terrain of the region.”

He pointed out that “the Command is working in coordination with the Ministries of Defense and Interior to introduce modern technologies that will contribute to securing the entire border strip and ensuring security stability in western Nineveh.”
