Prime Minister Acknowledges IMF’s Role in Supporting Iraq’s Economic Institutions


Baghdad: Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani praised the International Monetary Fund’s efforts in supporting Iraq and its financial and monetary institutions. His media office said in a statement, “Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani received today, Monday, the head of the International Monetary Fund’s mission to Iraq, Jean-Guillaume Poulin, and the Fund’s Resident Representative in Iraq, Mohammed Jaber.”



According to National Iraqi News Agency, al-Sudani highlighted the IMF’s support in restoring Iraq’s financial institutions to their vital role at both local and international levels. The Prime Minister noted that the IMF is a key partner in Iraq’s economic reform and stability efforts. He also emphasized the government’s achievements in financial, banking, and economic fields as positive steps toward achieving stability and sustainable development in the country.



Al-Sudani stressed the importance of ongoing international support to help the government address regional challenges and facilitate economic diversification and sustainability. He noted that the investment environment in Iraq has attracted major development projects, which are crucial for the country’s economic growth.



Jean-Guillaume Poulin acknowledged the significant progress made by the Iraqi government in economic reform, particularly in the development of the tax and customs system. He expressed the IMF’s readiness to increase coordination and joint action, offering necessary advice to enhance non-oil revenues.
