Baghdad: Iraq has put forth a proposal to establish a higher Arab ministerial committee aimed at fostering unity and aligning viewpoints among Arab nations, as discussed during the Arab Foreign Ministers’ meeting. The initiative seeks to resolve ongoing differences and strengthen collaborative efforts across the region.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein highlighted this proposal during the preparatory meeting for the upcoming Arab League summit in Baghdad. Hussein underscored the critical role of dialogue in maintaining security within the Arab region, further expressing appreciation for the Sultanate of Oman’s efforts towards achieving a peace agreement in Yemen.

Hussein reaffirmed Iraq’s allegiance to the Palestinian cause, stating, “The Palestinian issue remains our central issue, and we renew our support for the Palestinian people to liberate their land and establish their state with Jerusalem as its capital.”

The Bahraini Foreign Minister, contributing to the dialogue, expressed optimism that the summit would yield decisions facilitating stronger Arab cooperation and coordination to tackle shared challenges and promote sustainable peace. He reiterated the importance of the Palestinian issue, advocating against the displacement of Palestinians and ensuring the protection of their legitimate rights.

Moreover, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, the Secretary-General of the Arab League, commented on the significance of the Baghdad summit. He noted that the summit coincides with a pivotal historical moment, fostering expectations for a unified message. Aboul Gheit voiced hopes for a call to cease hostilities against the Palestinian people and emphasized the necessity for a consolidated vision to bolster comprehensive Arab national security.
