Basra: Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs and Minister of Oil Hayan Abdul-Ghani affirmed the ministry’s commitment to implementing refinery development projects and increasing petroleum product production rates to achieve self-sufficiency. During his visit to the Southern Refineries Company and his inspection of the production units and the FCC project, Abdul-Ghani highlighted the ministry’s achievements in self-sufficiency in kerosene production and efforts to increase gasoline production rates through ongoing projects like the FCC project, aimed at producing high-quality gasoline.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Ministry of Oil released a statement during Abdul-Ghani’s inspection visit, emphasizing the importance of completing the project within the specified timeframes. The project units are expected to begin operations sequentially in August, with production anticipated to start in September.

The General Manager of the Southern Refineries Company, Hussam Hussein Wali, noted that the FCC project’s production capacity will be 55,000 barrels per day, targeting the production of environmentally friendly petroleum products adhering to European specifications (Euro 5). The project is set to produce 4,300 cubic meters of refined gasoline per day, 300 tons of liquid gas per day, 6,000 cubic meters of hydrogenated gas oil per day, 4,500 tons of refined fuel oil per day, and additional quantities of naphtha and diesel. It will also produce approximately 400 tons of solid sulfur per day. Wali mentioned that the project’s actual completion rate is 98%.
