Baghdad: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirmed the Iraqi government’s commitment to achieving important priorities during the Arab Summit, most notably strengthening joint Arab action with its brothers to address the challenges facing the Arab world and the region in general.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Hisham Al-Alawi, stated in an interview that Iraq is keen to communicate and develop a set of messages through the Arab Summit meetings in Baghdad. These messages focus on highlighting Iraq’s political, security, and economic progress, emphasizing the country’s commitment to ending regional conflicts and creating a conducive environment for political reforms and dialogue.
He further elaborated on Iraq’s economic aspirations, stating the country’s readiness to offer significant opportunities and investments following its political and security stabilization. This initiative aims at promoting economic integration, benefiting sectors such as energy, agriculture, industry, tourism, finance, and the private sector. Additionally, Iraq is committed to enhancing Arab cooperation in combating extremism and terrorism and fostering educational and cultural exchanges, including initiatives like “Study in Iraq,” which has attracted around 5,000 Arab and foreign students.
Regarding the summit’s attendance, Al-Alawi confirmed a strong level of participation from Arab leaders, with attendance expected to surpass that of last year’s Manama Summit. This level of representation is seen as a positive sign for achieving a successful summit that will bolster joint Arab efforts.
Al-Alawi also discussed the meetings leading up to the summit’s conclusion, highlighting the focus on developmental, economic, and social themes. The outcomes of these meetings are expected to form the basis of the Baghdad Declaration, covering comprehensive political, technical, and economic issues, including the Palestinian situation and support for Gaza. The summit is anticipated to approve Iraqi and Arab initiatives, fostering enhanced cooperation to tackle regional challenges and promote economic partnerships.
