Tel Aviv: Israel has decided to immediately resume the transfer of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, following a decision by the Political and Security Council. The decision was reached during a meeting held on Sunday evening.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Israeli officials stated that the aid will be distributed through several international organizations until a new aid mechanism is set to begin on May 24. The aid channels include the World Food Program and World Kitchen, among others.

The humanitarian aid is expected to include essential supplies like medicines for hospitals and food items such as flour, to support bakeries operated by international organizations.

Yedioth Ahronoth reported that the decision to resume aid transfers was influenced by pressure from the United States, as discussed by the ministers involved. The Broadcasting Authority noted that the decision was approved without a formal vote, despite opposition from Finance Minister Smotrich and other government officials.

The move to resume aid sparked significant debate during a cabinet meeting, as reported by Israel’s Channel 14. National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir voiced strong opposition, criticizing the Prime Minister for allowing aid into Gaza. Israeli Army Radio further reported that Ben-Gvir’s request for a formal vote on the decision was denied.
