Baghdad: Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani affirmed the government’s interest in education and higher education during a meeting with the Director-General of the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO), Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Sudani highlighted the government’s efforts and achievements in enhancing the education sector within its government program. He discussed initiatives such as building schools, improving infrastructure, combating illiteracy, and reducing school dropout rates through the Return to Education Program. Additionally, he mentioned the initiative to send Iraqi students to international universities and attract Arab and foreign students to study in Iraq.

Al-Sudani also expressed the government’s willingness to collaborate with ALECSO in exchanging expertise and training educators. He stressed the importance of launching digital education initiatives that align with recent advancements in distance learning. Furthermore, he sought cooperation on projects aimed at preserving cultural and archaeological heritage and recovering stolen artifacts.

Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar congratulated Al-Sudani on Iraq’s successful hosting of the Arab and Development Summits and the Media Conference. He expressed a keen interest in collaborating in the fields of education and culture, and praised the urban development taking place in Iraq.
