Madrid: The Spanish capital, Madrid, is hosting the expanded meeting of the ministerial committee appointed by the Extraordinary Joint Arab-Islamic Summit on Gaza today, Sunday, as part of intensive diplomatic efforts to support the Palestinian cause.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the joint contact group between the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the League of Arab States on Gaza, along with the European countries that recognize Palestine-Spain, Ireland, Norway, and Slovenia-aims to encourage international recognition of the State of Palestine, revive the peace process, and ultimately achieve a two-state solution.

In his speech before the Socialist International Council meeting, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro S¡nchez condemned the Israeli aggression on Gaza and emphasized that it belongs to the Palestinians.

For its part, the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs explained in a statement about the summit that the Madrid government seeks, through this meeting, to promote dialogue to end the humanitarian catastrophe in the Gaza Strip and move forward towards a political solution to the conflict, adopting the principle of two states, Israel and Palestine, living side by side in peace and security.

It indicated that the goal is to continue mobilizing the international community to put an end to the Israeli attacks in Gaza and push for an immediate ceasefire that would allow for the immediate release of those held by Hamas and the entry of humanitarian aid into the Strip.

Spain recognized the Palestinian state last summer and, along with other countries, called for the suspension of the Association Agreement with Israel due to its crimes.
