Baghdad: Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani chaired the twenty-first regular session of the Council of Ministers on Tuesday, where several significant decisions were made concerning the country’s public affairs and development.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Council of Ministers approved recommendations from the Diwani Order Committee (No. 7 of 2025) concerning violations reported in the Federal Integrity Commission’s investigation into the railway rehabilitation file. As a result, two officials from the Ministry of Transport, Yaqoub Hussein Salem and Abbas Nasser Majeed, were dismissed for failing to perform their duties. The investigation report has been referred to the Federal Integrity Commission for further procedures.

The Council also granted approval for the Prime Minister’s Office to commence the second phase of the “Baghdad is More Beautiful” campaign, incorporating feedback presented during the session. In energy matters, the Council amended its Resolution (No. 346 of 2025) to allow contracting with the Turkish company ALFRIN to provide electrical power to the northern region, with financing from the Ministry of Finance.

Additionally, the Council addressed border crossing issues by amending Resolution No. 24187 of 2024, facilitating the continuation of implementation at the Zurbatiyah crossing. They also approved a $1 million contribution to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations for the 2025 budget.

In international cooperation, the Council authorized the Chairman of the Commission of the Iraqi Atomic Energy Authority to negotiate and sign a draft cooperation agreement with the Russian Federation for the peaceful use of nuclear energy. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will prepare the necessary documents to obtain the Prime Minister’s signature.
