Moscow: Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan affirmed that his country will continue working with Russia to preserve Syria’s unity and territorial integrity. In a press conference held with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Fidan emphasized Turkey’s support for the Syrian government’s efforts to unify all armed groups under a national army and central command.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Fidan highlighted the importance of leveraging influence to implement the agreement reached on March 10 between the Damascus government and the “SDF.” He noted the significant support the Syrian government has received from the Syrian people and the international community, despite “media disinformation campaigns.” Fidan also remarked on the increasing capabilities of Damascus in combating terrorism and organized crime.

Fidan stated that the lifting of sanctions on Syria by the United States and the European Union represents a crucial step. He also expressed hope for the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine to develop into lasting peace, reiterating Turkey’s readiness to support negotiations and potentially host the next round of talks.

Addressing developments in Palestine, Fidan called for an end to the “genocide in Gaza,” warning of potential chaos extending to Israel. He urged the international community to act to restore credibility and pledged continued collaboration with Russia on the matter.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov indicated Russia’s willingness to engage Turkey in further negotiations with Ukraine, emphasizing the need to address the root causes of the crisis. Lavrov also endorsed the implementation of Black Sea agreements and praised the development of Turkish-Russian cooperation in the energy sector. He shared Turkey’s stance on the Palestinian issue, describing the situation in Gaza and the West Bank as “unacceptable.”
