Baghdad: Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani has extended an invitation to major technology companies, particularly those from the United States, to establish operations in Iraq. This initiative is part of the government’s strategic vision to advance digital transformation across the nation.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, a statement from the Prime Minister’s Media Office revealed that al-Sudani recently met with a delegation from SpaceX (Starlink), a leading American company in network, information, and communications technology. The meeting focused on exploring potential collaborations in communications, the services offered by SpaceX, and the areas it covers.

Al-Sudani highlighted Iraq’s abundant investment opportunities, fueled by rapid growth and urban development. He emphasized the significance of Iraq’s strategic relationship with the United States, supported by a framework agreement and several bilateral memoranda extending into economic, scientific, and developmental sectors.

The Prime Minister instructed relevant authorities to explore ways to ease SpaceX’s operations in Iraq and expedite necessary procedures. He reiterated his welcome for major tech companies, especially American ones, to collaborate with the Iraqi private sector, aligning with the government’s digital transformation objectives.

The SpaceX delegation expressed their eagerness to operate in Iraq, offering services and cooperation in the local market. They stated that Starlink’s services would aid in digital transformation and its applications for both public and private sector institutions, enhance communications, and foster economic prosperity through Iraq-U.S. bilateral cooperation.
