Baghdad: Egypt and Qatar affirmed on Sunday their continued efforts to resolve points of contention in order to reach a ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip. A joint Egyptian-Qatari statement stated that “the two countries are continuing efforts to bring viewpoints closer together, allowing for the resumption of indirect negotiations based on the Witkoff proposal.”

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the statement called on all parties to exercise responsibility and support the efforts of mediators to end the crisis in the Gaza Strip, thus restoring stability and calm to the region.

The statement clarified that Egypt and Qatar look forward to quickly reaching a temporary truce for 60 days, leading to a permanent ceasefire agreement in Gaza. The two countries are also seeking to allow aid into Gaza to end the war and begin the reconstruction of the Strip, in accordance with the plan of the emergency Arab Summit held in Cairo on March 4.
