Beirut: Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani affirmed his support for internal political consensus in Lebanon during a joint press conference with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Prime Minister condemned the ongoing Zionist attacks on Lebanese territory. He also expressed Iraq’s support for Syria and its territorial integrity. In a show of solidarity, Iraq has contributed $20 million to the Arab Fund for the Reconstruction of Lebanon, an initiative proposed by Iraq and backed by Arab nations.
Lebanese President Joseph Aoun, speaking at the joint press conference, emphasized the importance of affirming state sovereignty without antagonizing others. He stressed the need for preserving civil peace and expressed gratitude to Iraq for its support. Aoun highlighted the role of religious authority Sayyid Ali al-Sistani, who has provided a roadmap for achieving a better future, and called for a system of common Arab interest.
The leaders’ dialogue underscores a commitment to regional cooperation and stability, with Iraq playing a pivotal role in supporting Lebanon’s political and economic recovery.
