Al-Maliki Asserts Iraq’s Neutrality Amid Global Tensions


Baghdad: Head of the State of Law Coalition, Nouri al-Maliki, emphasized that Iraq will not serve as an arena for settling international scores. Speaking at a meeting with the Russian Ambassador to Iraq, Elbrus Kutrashev, al-Maliki highlighted the country’s stance on maintaining neutrality in regional and global disputes.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the meeting between al-Maliki and Ambassador Kutrashev involved discussions on strengthening bilateral relations between Iraq and Russia. The dialogue covered mutual visits by officials from both nations and addressed regional and international developments, including situations in Syria, Palestine, and Lebanon, as well as the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Furthermore, the discussions touched upon the negotiations between Iran and the United States.

Al-Maliki underscored the importance of expanding cooperative efforts between Iraq and the Russian Federation to benefit both nations. He noted that the Middle East is encountering signifi
cant challenges that necessitate collaborative efforts to ensure security and stability in the region.

The Russian ambassador commended Iraq’s initiatives to promote peace in the region, affirming Moscow’s commitment to maintaining bilateral cooperation aimed at enhancing the security, stability, and prosperity of both countries.
