The Syrian Observatory: The Syrian Observatory confirmed on Monday the withdrawal of US forces from two prominent military bases in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, within areas controlled by the “Syrian Democratic Forces.” One of them is Al-Omar oil field base, the largest US base in Syrian territory.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the withdrawal process began gradually on May 18 before accelerating over the past two days. US convoys, including armored vehicles and logistical equipment, were seen leaving their positions in Al-Omar oil field and the Conoco gas plant, amid intense overflights by the “International Coalition” aircraft.

The Observatory explained that following the withdrawal, SDF commando forces were stationed in the positions vacated by US forces. According to unnamed sources, the joint military operations will continue in the event of security campaigns or ISIS targets, and will be supported by the international coalition from the Shaddadi base south of Hasakah, where US forces still maintain a presence.

The current withdrawal is one of the most prominent US military movements in northeastern Syria, especially as it coincides with the start of negotiations between the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) on the one hand and the government in Damascus on the other, to discuss a comprehensive political settlement in Syria.
