Baghdad: The Border Ports Commission announced on Wednesday the completion of the process of linking all checkpoints in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq with the Commission’s headquarters in Baghdad. This is to monitor the progress of procedures and ensure fair collection of customs duties, in accordance with Cabinet Resolution No. 270 of 2025.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Commission stated in a statement that “the linking process included the last remaining checkpoint in the region, Bawa Mahmoud checkpoint in Diyala Governorate, thus completing the electronic network linking all border crossings and checkpoints affiliated with the Commission with its headquarters in Baghdad.”

The statement added that “this step comes as part of an integrated plan aimed at strengthening oversight and supervision of the work of border crossings and unifying procedures followed at all border points, ensuring transparency and integrity in the collection of government revenues and preventing any waste or manipulation.”

The General Authority of Customs announced on June 3rd the start of implementing the new customs price lists for goods and commodities approved by Cabinet Resolution No. 270 of 2025, starting from June 1st, 2025, at all border crossings, including the Kurdistan Region ports. It stated that ‘the increase did not include goods and commodities that affect the lives of citizens, such as food and essential materials, but on the contrary, they were supported in accordance with the applicable laws and instructions.’
