Babylon: Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani affirmed the pursuit of localizing electrical industries to enhance energy security in Iraq.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office revealed that Al-Sudani has launched the implementation work of the Diwan Factory project. This project, located in Babylon Governorate, aims to produce transformers, electrical cables, and smart meters.

Al-Sudani emphasized that the project, which will be executed with the latest specifications and technologies, marks a significant step in the government’s collaborative efforts with the private sector. The initiative is expected to contribute towards localizing national electrical industries, thus reducing dependency on imports and boosting energy security through production that aligns with advanced smart technology.

The Prime Minister lauded the earnest efforts of the Iraqi people, highlighting their role in shaping a promising future. He reiterated the government’s commitment to providing extensive support to advance the industrial sector, aiming for comprehensive development of the national industry.

The Diwan plant project is considered one of the most strategic private sector initiatives in Iraq, with a total budget of $300 million. It is set to offer a crucial platform for renewable energy projects and cover the entire supply chain for national grids.
