Three Killed, Five Injured in Tribal Revenge Attack at Wadi al-Salam Cemetery

Najaf: The Najaf Police Command reported a tragic incident at dawn on Friday in the Wadi al-Salam cemetery where three visitors were killed and five others were injured. All victims belonged to the same family, and the crime was linked to tribal revenge.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, a Najaf police source revealed that the family involved consisted of eight members. The attack was a result of an old dispute between members of a tribe in the Misan Governorate.

The source explained that gunmen targeted the group with Kalashnikov rifles while they were in the cemetery to commemorate the fortieth day of a relative’s passing. The group included women, children, and young men. After the attack, the perpetrators fled the scene.
