Baghdad: Speaker of Parliament Mohsen al-Mandlawi emphasized the necessity for the international community to assume its responsibilities concerning the aggression on the Gaza Strip. Al-Mandlawi held a meeting at his residence with Robin Milton, Deputy British Ambassador to Baghdad, where they discussed enhancing cooperation frameworks to strengthen regional and international security and peace.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, both parties highlighted the longstanding Iraqi-British relations and underscored the need to expand these ties to benefit both nations. The meeting focused on cooperation in political, economic, and security domains amidst the challenges currently faced by the region.

Al-Mandlawi voiced Iraq’s significant concern over the recent escalation of regional events, calling for an active international role, particularly from major powers, in maintaining a ceasefire between Iran and the Zionist entity. He stressed the importance of preventing further escalation to protect regional and international security and stability.

The First Deputy Speaker condemned what he described as a “genocidal war” by the Zionist entity against Palestinians in Gaza. He stated that the starvation and siege imposed on civilians amount to a crime against humanity. Al-Mandlawi called for immediate international intervention to lift the siege and provide relief and medical aid. He urged Britain, as a permanent member of the Security Council, to fulfill its legal and moral obligations concerning this humanitarian crisis.
