Syria: The General Authority of Land and Sea Ports in Syria announced on Friday the arrival of a convoy of fire engines from the Iraqi Civil Defense Directorate to participate in extinguishing forest fires on the Syrian coast that have been raging for several days.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, a statement from the Syrian Ports Authority highlighted the collaborative effort, stating: “In support of efforts to extinguish the fires raging in the Latakia countryside, the brotherly Republic of Iraq sent this evening a support convoy consisting of 10 fire engines with 10 water supply trucks, along with a group of Iraqi Civil Defense personnel, within the framework of joint cooperation and coordination between the two countries.”

The statement further detailed that “The General Authority of Land and Sea Ports facilitated the convoy’s passage through Albukamal border crossing, and it is currently on its way to Latakia Governorate to enhance the capabilities of the firefighting teams operating on the ground.”

The Iraqi Civil Defense Directorate had announced the previous day that it would send 20 firefighting teams to participate in extinguishing the fires in Syria that broke out in Latakia Governorate.

It is noteworthy that the Syrian city of Latakia has been witnessing a wave of fires since July 3rd, which began in the areas of Jabal al-Turkman, Beit al-Qasir, and Zghrin, and spread to many neighboring areas, amid efforts to extinguish them.
