New york: The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) has issued a warning that the humanitarian crisis in Gaza has reached an unprecedented level of deterioration, with the entire population experiencing food insecurity. Nearly 500,000 people are facing severe hunger.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, WFP Deputy Executive Director Carl Scaw stated in New York, following his visit to Gaza, “The situation is the worst I have ever seen, with humanitarian needs reaching unprecedented levels, while response capacity is more constrained than ever. Malnutrition is continuing to worsen, with nearly 90,000 children in need of immediate treatment, while a third of the population in Gaza goes days without food.”

Scaw highlighted that “the United Nations has food supplies on the border sufficient to feed the entire population for approximately two months.” However, delivering this aid requires a ceasefire, the opening of all crossings, and security for humanitarian workers.

Furthermore, Scaw described the killing of civilians while they search for food as “the clearest example of the desperate situation.”
