Baghdad: Kurdish media reported on Sunday that the capital, Baghdad, will host an important meeting tonight, attended by Kurdish ministers in the federal government and heads of parliamentary blocs, to discuss and resolve the Kurdistan Region’s salaries issue.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the meeting will be attended by Justice Minister Khaled Shawani, Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein, Reconstruction Minister Bangin Rekani, Deputy Speaker of Parliament Shakhwan Abdullah, and the head of the Kurdish blocs in Parliament. The gathering aims to take urgent measures to resolve the crisis of the region’s employees’ salaries, with the Federal Court scheduled to hold a special session tomorrow for the same purpose.

The issue of salaries for employees of the Kurdistan Region is witnessing ongoing tension between the governments of Baghdad and Erbil, amid accumulated disagreements related to the distribution of oil and non-oil revenues and budget distribution mechanisms.

Despite the formation of joint committees and repeated meetings between the two parties, the salary crisis remains unresolved, causing a stifling economic crisis that has directly impacted the lives of citizens in the region.
