Baghdad: The “Handala” ship has embarked on its journey from the port of Syracuse in Sicily, Italy, on Sunday, with a mission to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza. The vessel is carrying 15 activists along with medical and food supplies intended to support the people of Gaza amidst the ongoing blockade.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, this voyage follows the interception of the “Madeleine” ship by Israel six weeks ago, which was similarly prevented from reaching the Gaza Strip. The “Handala” ship is set to make a stop in Gallipoli, Italy, where it will be joined by two MPs from the “France Insoumise” party.

MP Gabrielle Cathala, one of the French MPs joining the mission, stated that the aim of this endeavor is to challenge the blockade imposed on Gaza and call attention to the lack of international response regarding the situation described as genocide. The activists hope that this effort will raise awareness and prompt action to alleviate the conditions faced by the residents of Gaza.
