Diwaniyah: A man has been apprehended by the Diwaniyah Police Department for allegedly murdering his wife and attempting to cover up the crime by staging it as a suicide.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the police reported that the suspect initially claimed his 40-year-old wife had died by suicide, using his pistol. However, forensic experts raised suspicions after examining the crime scene and found inconsistencies in the husband’s account.

The police statement revealed that a detailed investigation by the Anti-Crime and Counter-Terrorism Department led to the husband confessing to the murder, which he attributed to ongoing family disputes. The Diwaniyah Police have stated that legal action is underway to prosecute the suspect in line with legal standards.
