Brussels: The European Commission has voiced concern over U.S. plans to impose new tariffs on European exports, warning of negative repercussions on transatlantic economic ties and affirming the EU’s readiness to respond in defense of its interests.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stated in an official announcement that the EU has taken note of the revised tariff measures announced by U.S. President Donald Trump, which include a 30% duty on certain goods starting August 1.

Von der Leyen noted that such a move would disrupt vital supply chains between Europe and the United States, impacting businesses, consumers, and the healthcare sector on both sides of the Atlantic.

She reiterated the EU’s commitment to fair trade practices and a preference for negotiated solutions within the framework of the transatlantic partnership. However, she emphasized that Brussels would not hesitate to implement countermeasures if Washington proceeds with unilateral act
ions that harm European economic interests.

The Commission President concluded by stating that the EU will continue to strengthen its global partnerships based on fair trade rules while keeping the door open for dialogue with the United States.
