Basra: Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani has affirmed his commitment to realizing the government's vision of ending associated gas flaring, diversifying financial revenues, and protecting the environment.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Sudani inaugurated the dry gas unit within the Basra Natural Gas Liquefaction Plant project. Additionally, he inaugurated, via videoconference, the Central Gas Processing Plant in the Al-Faihaa oil field and the Umm Qasr water project. Al-Sudani commended the engineers and workers involved in these projects, emphasizing the importance of their work in advancing the oil industry, reducing gas flaring, diversifying revenue streams, and protecting the environment.

The new dry gas unit is set to produce 1,000 tons of liquefied natural gas for cooking, alongside 170 cubic meters of dry gas to supply power plants. This enhancement will boost the Basra Plant's capacity to approximately 400 cubic meters per day, marking a 40% increase in its ability to process natural gas.

The Al-Faihaa Station is a strategic asset designed to process raw associated gas at a capacity of 130 cubic meters per day, yielding 85 cubic meters of dry gas and 700 tons of liquefied gas daily. The development includes the construction of two pipelines, measuring 149 km in total, to transport these gases efficiently.

The Umm Qasr water station, comprising two stages, will provide 1,000 m3 of potable water per hour through the desalination of artesian well water. This project aims to alleviate the water scarcity and salinity issues plaguing the area, ensuring a reliable supply of drinking water for the local population.
