Baghdad: United Nations Secretary-General Ant³nio Guterres affirmed on Monday that the situation in the Gaza Strip has reached a state of complete collapse, stressing the need to achieve a two-state solution as the only way to end the ongoing cycle of violence. Guterres emphasized during his participation in an international conference on the Palestinian issue that the current conflict not only threatens the stability of the region, but also destabilizes global security as a whole.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Guterres stated, “We are on the brink of collapse, while the two-state solution seems more distant than ever.” He criticized what he described as “the total destruction of Gaza,” asserting that nothing justifies the genocide in Gaza that has occurred before the eyes of the world. He highlighted the systematic starvation, the killing of tens of thousands of civilians, the escalation of settler violence, and the forced displacement, all of which must stop immediately.

Guterres called for an end to all unilateral practices that undermine the two-state solution, stressing that the gradual annexation of the occupied West Bank is illegal and must stop. He noted that this conference must mark a true turning point toward ending the occupation and achieving justice for the Palestinian people.

He concluded by emphasizing that “the wholesale destruction of Gaza is unbearable and must stop immediately. The suffering we are witnessing is unacceptable, and the time has come for genuine political will to push toward a just and lasting peace.”
