Baghdad: Turkish Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmus called on world parliaments to act together against the genocide committed by the Israeli occupation army against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip for 22 months. During the opening session of the Sixth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament today in Geneva, Switzerland, Kurtulmus said, "It is our moral duty to act together against the ongoing genocide in Palestine."

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Kurtulmus emphasized that the situation in Palestine is a matter of international justice impacting all of humanity, not just the Palestinian people, Arabs, or Islamic countries. He highlighted that parliaments worldwide have formed a "Parliamentary Group in Support of Palestine" to express solidarity with the Palestinian people and advocate for the two-state solution.

Kurtulmus further stated, "We believe that the ongoing campaign of genocide in the occupied Palestinian territories must end urgently, its perpetrators must be brought to justice, and that the two-state solution is the only way to achieve a just and lasting peace in the region."

He reiterated the importance of state-building for Palestinians, referencing UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres's remarks that establishing a Palestinian state is a right, not a reward, and that denying it would embolden extremists globally.

Kurtulmus urged all parliaments to join the Parliamentary Group in Support of Palestine, with the adoption of the "two-state solution" vision as a prerequisite to amplify their collective voice.

The Sixth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament, organized by the Inter-Parliamentary Union, commenced today in Geneva, Switzerland, and will continue until July 31.
