Tehran: Iraq’s Minister of Electricity, Ziyad Ali Fadel, arrived in the Iranian capital on an official visit to address concerns regarding Iranian gas supplies to Iraq, which have notably decreased since last May.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Fadel’s agenda includes meetings with multiple Iranian officials to discuss measures ensuring Tehran fulfills its commitment to supply approximately 55 million cubic meters of gas per day. This supply is crucial under a bilateral contract between the two nations, designed to support Iraq’s gas-fired power plants.

The Minister’s media office highlighted that the decreased gas supply has forced the shutdown of several power stations, disrupting electricity supply hours nationwide. This visit is particularly critical given the ongoing heatwave and the upcoming Arbaeen pilgrimage, both of which amplify the need for a stable power grid to guarantee uninterrupted electricity for citizens and pilgrims alike.
