Baghdad: Deputy Speaker of the Parliament, Mohsen Al-Mandalawi, has ordered the formation of a parliamentary committee to follow up on the situation in Sinjar and the affairs of the Yazidis, especially the displaced. This initiative aims to address the ongoing challenges faced by the Yazidi community in Iraq.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, this decision was made during a meeting at Al-Mandalawi’s office with Sarab Al-Yas, the Director General of the General Directorate for Yazidi Survivors Affairs at the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, along with several Yazidi survivors. The meeting focused on the tragic events that occurred in 2014 when the Yazidi community in Sinjar suffered a massacre and enslavement at the hands of Daesh forces.

Al-Mandalawi acknowledged the suffering of the people of Sinjar and the difficult conditions they endured during that period. He emphasized the religious, moral, and humanitarian responsibility of all concerned authorities to ensure justice for the Yazidi community, safeguard their rights, and alleviate the negative impacts they have experienced.

He highlighted that terrorism intended to fragment the nation’s strength by targeting all components of the population indiscriminately. However, the unity and awareness of Iraqis played a crucial role in overcoming these forces of darkness.

Al-Mandalawi reiterated the Parliament’s commitment to supporting the Yazidi community, citing the enactment of the Yazidi Survivors Law in the previous parliamentary term. Efforts are also underway to finalize the Law on the Organization of Minority Rights, which has reached the second reading stage. This law aims to protect minorities, secure their rights, and prevent future crimes against them.
