Ankara: Basra Governor, Engineer Asaad Al-Eidani, arrived in the Turkish capital, Ankara, on an official visit to discuss the water releases issue and their impact on the water situation in Iraq, particularly in Basra Governorate.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, a statement issued by the Governor’s Office stated that Al-Eidani met today with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan. The meeting addressed the crisis of water releases from rivers shared between Iraq and Turkey, particularly the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, in light of the growing challenges associated with water scarcity and climate change.
It added: “During the meeting, the negative repercussions of the decrease in water quantities reaching Iraq were highlighted, and its impact on the agricultural and water sectors in Basra Governorate, which threatens the sustainability of the daily lives of the population.”
