Baghdad: The Ministry of Interior announced that detachments of the General Directorate of Organized Crime, under the direct supervision of the Minister of Interior, have arrested 1,275 suspects in various Iraqi governorates since the beginning of Muharram until today. They were accused of manipulating the prices of goods, food, and services, taking advantage of the economic conditions and the increase in demand during this period.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, a statement by the Ministry of Interior stated that legal measures have been taken against them and they have been referred to the competent authorities to receive their just punishment in accordance with the law. This is part of the Ministry’s efforts to maintain market stability and prevent any attempts to exploit citizens.
The Ministry of Interior affirmed that it will continue to monitor and pursue anyone who attempts to harm the national economy or exploit the general circumstances. It also called on citizens to cooperate and report any similar cases through hotlines or police stations across the country.
