Baghdad: Baghdad Governorate on Saturday denied reports claiming that warnings had been issued to residents of Abu Ghraib about the poisoning of water storage tanks, stressing that the circulated information is unfounded.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, in a statement, the Governorate said, 'What was published on some social media platforms regarding terrorists poisoning water tanks is completely false.' It explained that the incident was related to a temporary suspension of water pumping in the Akarkof area after suspicions arose about the quality of water in one of the tanks. Baghdad Water Directorate carried out cleaning and sterilization procedures as a precautionary measure to safeguard residents.

The statement added that 50 water tankers were dispatched to secure supply during the suspension in order to prevent any shortage. The Governorate urged citizens to rely on official and reliable sources for information and not to be misled by rumors.
