Mosul: Procedures for exhuming al-Khasfa cemetery, south of Mosul, will begin tomorrow, Sunday, in a move aimed at uncovering crimes committed by the terrorist organization ISIS during its control of the province.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the head of the Nineveh Court of Appeal, Judge Raed Al-Muslih, stated that the exhumation of the cemetery will be conducted under direct judicial supervision, with the participation of specialized forensic teams, as well as local and international humanitarian organizations.

Al-Muslih highlighted that the cemetery is one of the most horrific sites of genocide in Iraq, estimating that there are hundreds of bodies of civilian and military victims who were collectively executed and thrown into that deep chasm.

He further explained that the exhumation process will involve documenting forensic evidence and identifying victims using modern DNA analysis techniques, in preparation for prosecuting those involved and providing justice for the victims' families.

ISIS notoriously used the hole, known as al-Khasfa, as a site to dispose of the bodies of its victims by throwing them from a great height into a huge natural hole, estimated to be more than 100 meters deep.
