Baghdad: Turkey condemned in the “strongest terms” the Israeli military attacks that violate Syria’s sovereignty and its political and geographical unity, and which have recently expanded in scope. In a statement issued today regarding the Israeli military attacks on Syria, the Turkish Foreign Ministry stressed the need to ensure an end to these attacks, which undermine efforts to establish security and stability in Syria and the region in general.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Turkish Foreign Ministry emphasized the importance of continuing to support the Syrian government in its efforts to ensure peace and prosperity in the country. The statement affirmed Turkey’s commitment to its vision of a Syria free of terrorism, where its people enjoy security, and where its territorial integrity is preserved, in line with the legitimate aspirations of the Syrian people.

The Israeli army has made four incursions into the Quneitra Governorate in southwestern Syria during August, with the latest occurring at dawn on a Tuesday, resulting in the death of a Syrian citizen due to an Israeli airstrike on a house. Despite the new Syrian Administration posing no threat to Tel Aviv, the Israeli army has repeatedly incursed into Syria, launching airstrikes that have killed civilians and destroyed Syrian army positions, military vehicles, weapons, and ammunition.

For seven months, the Israeli army has occupied Mount Hermon and a 15-kilometer-wide security zone in some areas of southern Syria. Since 1967, Israel has occupied most of the Syrian Golan Heights. The situation was further exacerbated following the events that led to the overthrow of the regime of Bashar al-Assad in late 2024, as Israel exploited these circumstances to expand its occupation of Syrian territory.
