Palestinian Ministry of Education Warns of “Educational Extermination” in Gaza and the West Bank

Gaza: The Palestinian Ministry of Education confirmed that the Palestinian education system is facing systematic and unprecedented extermination, particularly in the Gaza Strip, due to Israeli hostilities. The ministry highlighted the deaths of thousands of school and university students and the destruction of hundreds of educational facilities, describing it as a major crime against humanity and a clear attack on the right to education.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the statement, issued on the occasion of the International Day to Protect Education from Attack, noted that the West Bank, including al-Quds, is witnessing a comprehensive targeting of the educational system, with escalating violations against educators, students, and educational and academic institutions, especially in al-Quds, the northern West Bank districts, the Jordan Valley, Yatta, and the Old City of al-Khalil, through demolition operations, raids, and restrictions imposed on schools, students, and staff.

The ministry called on the international community, UN agencies, and human rights and education protection organizations to assume their responsibilities and take urgent action to halt what it described as “educational extermination,” ensuring the protection of schools, students, teachers, and education sector workers in accordance with international laws and conventions. It emphasized that education is a fundamental right and that attacking it constitutes a crime.

The ministry stressed that the International Day to Protect Education is an opportunity to highlight the violations that have targeted education in Gaza, which, in its words, have reached the level of “educational extermination.”
