The Iraqi Jurists Union Highlights Women’s Participation in Elections at Key Workshop


Baghdad: The Iraqi Jurists Union, in coordination with the Independent High Electoral Commission, hosted an expanded workshop entitled “The Importance of Elections, Their Protection, Women’s Participation, and the Women’s Quota.” The workshop was attended by a number of government agencies and state institutions, including the Supreme Council for Women, the National Security Chancellery, the Women’s Affairs Department at the Presidency of the Republic, and the Security Media Cell. Ahlam al-Jaberi, a member of the Board of Commissioners at the Independent High Electoral Commission, was also present.



According to National Iraqi News Agency, Qasim Taama Joda, head of the Jurists Union, spoke at the workshop, highlighting the importance of elections as a fundamental pillar in consolidating the democratic approach. Joda emphasized the vital role of criminal protection provided by both the Iraqi Election Law and Penal Code in safeguarding the electoral process from any violations or abuses.



Joda also highlighted the need to empower women and ensure their effective presence through the women’s quota system, which enhances women’s participation in political life and decision-making. The workshop concluded with attendees emphasizing the importance of cooperation between state institutions and legal community organizations to support the integrity of elections and protect women’s political rights.
