Baghdad: Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani chaired the 36th regular session of the Council of Ministers, where the general situation in the country and agenda topics were discussed, leading to several decisions.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Prime Minister began the session by outlining the outcomes of his official visit to NATO headquarters in Brussels. He emphasized Iraq’s interest in forming a constructive partnership with NATO and strengthening long-term relations with its member states. Al-Sudani also discussed Iraq’s intention to enhance cooperation with NATO countries in addressing security challenges like terrorism and cyber threats, alongside improving Iraq’s air defense and deterrence capabilities.
The Cabinet proceeded with discussions on its agenda, focusing on electricity projects. It approved principles of energy cooperation between the Ministry of Electricity and GE Vernova International, authorizing the Minister of Electricity to expedite implementation. Additionally, the Cabinet decided to increase allocations in the investment budget for the Ministry of Electricity for 2025, facilitating the completion of ongoing projects and new contracts.
In addressing reconstruction project conflicts, the Council approved amendments to the scope of implementation of Cabinet Resolution No. 24725 of 2024, applying to government projects’ conflicting contracts until the end of 2025. Furthermore, the Council supported the Ministry of Defense by amending its 2025 allocations for contracts related to ammunition and mortar shells.
The session also approved the tender for Networks and Well Platforms for the Artawi Field to Sinopec Petroleum Services and exempted the central processing plant tender for the same field from unified procurement procedures, awarding it to ENKA. The Cabinet sanctioned the digital transformation contract for the Supreme Judicial Council through a partnership with the private sector, based on a letter from the Judicial Council dated July 31, 2025.
