Ministry of Health Destroys Nearly Three Kilograms of Narcotic and Psychotropic Substances


Baghdad: The Ministry of Health announced the destruction of approximately three kilograms of narcotic and psychotropic substances at the Forensic Medicine Department in Baghdad.



According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Ministry stated in a statement that the Destruction Committee examined and destroyed quantities of narcotic and psychotropic substances at the Forensic Medicine Department in Baghdad, totaling approximately three kilograms of narcotic substances, in addition to 1,955 pills.



The Ministry added that the destruction process was carried out under the supervision of a specialized committee headed by Judge Yasser Al-Khuzai, representative of the Supreme Judicial Council. Representatives from the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers, the General Authority of Customs, the General Directorate of Narcotics Affairs, and the Border Forces Command were also present. Dr. Zaman Mahmoud Jassim, rapporteur of the Supreme National Authority for Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances/Office of the National Advisor for Mental Health, attended the event as well.



Judge Al-Khuzai confirmed that the destruction process was carried out in dedicated incinerators with temperatures reaching 1,100 degrees Celsius. This ensured the complete elimination of the substances and their transformation into ash, free of any traces.
