Baghdad: Iraqi Interior Minister Abdul Amir Al-Shammari affirmed that achieving sustainable security in Iraq has encouraged major companies and investors to enter the local market with confidence, stressing that a safe environment is the cornerstone of any developmental or investment process.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, a statement from the minister’s media office said that Al-Shammari, accompanied by several Interior Ministry leaders, took part in the Iraq Investment Forum, held in Baghdad over two days, showcasing more than 160 promising investment opportunities across various sectors.
The statement highlighted that Saturday’s session focused on reviewing government measures to facilitate investors’ work and the role of the Interior Ministry in creating a secure environment to attract capital.
Al-Shammari emphasized that the ministry, through all its departments and forces, has worked to strengthen internal security, protect strategic infrastructure, and develop its capabilities in combating organized crime, money laundering, and economic crimes. He added that special attention has also been given to cybersecurity, border management, and streamlining security procedures in cooperation with the National Investment Commission and relevant agencies.
The minister noted that investment does not rely solely on traditional security but also requires genuine partnerships and a modern legal and administrative framework. He stressed that the ministry has prioritized supporting administrative reform, digital transformation, and automating services such as issuing passports and electronic visas, simplifying the registration of security companies, and facilitating residency and ID procedures for foreign workers.
Al-Shammari further pointed out that the ministry has ensured the protection of investment projects while coordinating with the Ministries of Planning and Investment to remove obstacles, confirming that Iraq has made tangible progress in achieving sustainable security. This, he said, has played a key role in attracting global companies, thanks to the sacrifices of martyrs and wounded heroes, the collective efforts of security forces, and unlimited government support.
