Baghdad: The Baghdad Operations Command announced that the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces has directed the formation of a joint technical criminal task force and a higher investigative committee into the assassination of Baghdad Provincial Council member Safaa Hussein Yassin al-Mashhadani.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Command stated that after midnight on October 15, 2025, a sticky bomb exploded under a Tahoe vehicle belonging to al-Mashhadani, who was a candidate for the upcoming parliamentary elections. The explosion occurred in the ‘Hay Al-Dhabat’ area within the Tarmiyah district, north of the capital, resulting in his death and injuring four others with varying injuries who were with him inside the vehicle.
The directive for forming the task force and investigative committee came under the direction and follow-up of the Prime Minister, who is also the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces. The initiatives are being overseen by Lieutenant General, Commander of Baghdad Operations, to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
