Al-Sahaf: An Iraqi Migrant Dies in a Libyan Detention Center


Tripoli: The Charg© d’Affaires at the Iraqi Embassy in Tripoli, Ahmed Al-Sahaf, announced today the death of an Iraqi migrant in a detention center in Libya.



According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Sahaf stated that the relevant authorities in the Anti-Illegal Immigration Agency in Libya, located east of the capital Tripoli, reported the death of Iraqi migrant Hogar Aso Kheder. The cause of death was identified as a heart attack inside the detention center.



Al-Sahaf expressed the Iraqi Embassy’s condolences to Kheder’s family during this challenging time. He also reiterated a warning to families, urging them not to allow their children to pursue illegal immigration, highlighting the legal and personal risks involved.



He further confirmed that the Iraqi Embassy in Tripoli had previously facilitated the return of 41 immigrants who had entered Libya illegally. The embassy coordinated with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Baghdad and the Kurdistan Regional Government to provide travel tickets for the voluntary return of these immigrants to Iraq. Additionally, the embassy has made arrangements to assist families in confirming the safety of their relatives through allocated contact numbers.
