Baghdad: Colombia announced the recall of its ambassador to the United States, after US President Donald Trump decided to halt aid and threatened to impose punitive tariffs on Bogota. This comes amid tensions between the two countries, which have reached an unprecedented level.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Colombian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a statement that Daniel Garc­a Pe±a returned to Bogota to consult with President Gustavo Petro Urrego.

Relations between the United States and Colombia have become noticeably strained recently, especially after US military strikes targeted ships allegedly transporting drugs in the Caribbean Sea, which the Colombian president considered a violation of his country’s sovereignty.
