Stockholm: Swedish police have expressed their gratitude to Iraq following the extradition of a dangerous drug and weapons trafficking gang leader, who is wanted by Swedish authorities for charges of murder, drug trafficking, and arms trafficking. This development highlights the collaborative efforts between Sweden and Iraq in combating international crime.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the extradition was a direct result of the enhanced security cooperation between the two nations, which was strengthened after a recent visit by Interior Minister Abdul Amir Al-Shammari to Stockholm. The visit facilitated discussions and agreements that paved the way for this significant extradition.

Steven Hector, Deputy Chief of the Swedish Police, acknowledged the successful cooperation, stating: “We would like to thank Iraq for this cooperation. An influential criminal figure has been handed over to Sweden, and this demonstrates the effectiveness of the partnership between our two countries.”

The extradition is part of broader efforts by the Iraqi Ministry of Interior, which has been actively signing memoranda of cooperation and understanding with various Arab and friendly countries. These agreements have been instrumental in dismantling criminal networks and facilitating the extradition of internationally wanted individuals.
