Kuala lumpur: Thailand and Cambodia signed a joint declaration on a peace agreement on Sunday, a formal step toward cessation of hostilities and restoration of peace along their disputed border.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the agreement was signed by Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and his Cambodian counterpart, Hun Manit, on the sidelines of the 47th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit in the Malaysian capital, Kuala Lumpur.

It added that Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim witnessed the signing in his capacity as ASEAN Chairman, with US President Donald Trump also participating.

The declaration reinforces the ceasefire understanding reached last July following talks between the two countries. The resolution also stipulates the formation of an Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) observer team to monitor compliance and prevent renewed clashes in the border areas.

The peace agreement marks a milestone in ASEAN regional diplomacy and reflects the bloc's commitment to conflict prevention, stability, and cooperation under Malaysia's 2025 presidency, under the theme "Inclusiveness and Sustainability."

As this year's ASEAN Chair, Malaysia is hosting the 47th ASEAN Summit from October 26 to 28 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.
